The History Faculty run competitions for students interested in history.
HTA History Competition
The history Faculty is involved in many competitions one of which is the HTA Australian History Competition. In this competition there are questions which reflect the directions outlined in the Australian curriculum – History.
This is what it will look like:
- Each competition will be a 45 minute test.
- Each student will receive a question paper, a source booklet and a computer answer sheet.
- There will be 50 multiple choice questions graded from easy to challenging and catering for a range of abilities.
- There will be a variety of questions, addressing knowledge, skills and understandings.
- More information will be available in the AHC website. The date of competition is the 30th of May and closing entries by the 30th of March 2012.
Details
- Results and certificates back to school but the end of July.
- The cost is a school admin fee of $30 plus $6 per student.
- The $6 per student is covered by the school.
The benefit to the student will be a greater understanding of Australian History, an accurate grading of their skills and the ability to think under pressure. The certificate they receive as a surprise, could be a great addition to a junior CV.
National History Challenge
The National History Challenge is a research-based competition for students. It gives your child a chance to be an historian, investigating their community and exploring their own past. It emphasizes and rewards quality research, the use of community resources and effective presentation.
Prizes
State year level winners get:
- $200 cash
- National History Challenge medallion
- certificate.
National year level winners:
- $300 Cash
- Medallion
- travel to Canberra to receive the Medallion at the National Presentation.
State special category winners:
- $200 cash
- National History Challenge medallion
- certificate.
Entry details and dates for this competition can be acquired by your history teacher. This competition is a national competition which aims to develop research skills and a definite addition to a CV.
HTA Year 10 History Competition
The third competition is the HTA Year 10 History Competition. The primary goal of the competition has been to offer an interesting and challenging competition for students and a way in which to support teachers in the implementation of the new Australian History Curriculum.
Details:
- this is a 50 minute test which is multiple choice and which is done during class time
- the test will cater for a range of abilities addressing knowledge, skills and understanding
- the competition will be held in term 3 of this year
- every student is automatically entered
- the prize will be a certificate from the QHHS History Faculty
- there is no cost for the students
- this will be a great addition to a CV.
