Students will study a range of texts including prose, fiction, drama, poetry, nonfiction, film, digital and media, as well as Australian texts. You will explore the way events, experiences, ideas, values and processes are represented in and through texts.
You should choose English-advanced if you have an interest in language, reading, literature and media. Students who have an aptitude or passion for English should consider English-advanced as a way of building upon and extending skills from the junior years. If you enjoy looking at the power of language and context, or enjoy critically reflecting on texts, then advanced is for you.
Learning English-advanced
English-advanced is a Stage 6, 2 unit Board Developed Course.
English-advanced will provide you with skills in analysis, critical thinking and academic writing which will assist you in pursuing tertiary study. Some examples of careers include those in education, research, politics, law, medicine, social work, librarianship and museum curation.
Stage 6
In the English-advanced course, students continue to explore opportunities to investigate complex ideas in challenging texts, to evaluate, emulate and employ powerful, creative and sophisticated ways to use language to make meaning, and to find enjoyment in literature.
Students refine their understanding of the dynamic relationship between language, texts and meaning. They do this through critical study and through the skilful and creative use of language forms and features, and of structures of texts composed for different purposes in a range of contexts.
Through study of the course modules students continue to develop their skills to question, reconsider and refine meaning through language, and to reflect on their own processes of responding, composing and learning.
