Additional activities

We have a number of additional activities organised by the Support Unit.

Swim school

In Term 3 our junior students attended swim school at Blacktown leisure centre every Wednesday. Students were divided into various groups with qualified swim instructors, learning new skills and/or developing their strokes, depending on their swimming ability.

Work experience

During Terms 2 & 3 most of our senior students attended work experience, either as a group at The secret garden, or at an individual work place eg. café, metal workshop, office etc.

Congratulations to all Stage 5 students who completed work experience during 2018. Students developed communication and practical skills in a number of different work placements, and experienced increased self-confidence regarding independent travel. Some of our students gained additional days of work experience at their placement.

Transitioning

Over the last two terms, staff and students have been meeting our Year 7 (2019) students and families. Our new students have participated in a number of transition days here at school, meeting staff and students from the Support Unit, touring the school grounds and engaging in a variety of activities. We look forward to working with them in 2019.

Year 9 students participated in a subject information day at Wyndham College during Term 4 Week 6. This begins their transition to Wyndham College, which will continue throughout 2019.

Students in Year 10 have been participating in transition activities at Wyndham College this semester. They have become familiar with the layout and daily organisation of the school, and gained valuable knowledge of course content and elective options for senior school. We would like to wish Year 10 best of luck at Wyndham College.

Sensory and occupational therapy room

The support unit have been fortunate to acquire a new demountable, in view of creating a sensory/OT room for our students to assist their physical and emotional wellbeing.

All our students have had the opportunity to utilise this room and are loving it.
