Support unit

Our support unit at Quakers Hill High School provides a wide range of specialised care and development

Each class has a homeroom and most subjects are taught by their homeroom teacher, however students are also taught by specialised mainstream teachers within their field of expertise. Students have the opportunity to attend specific mainstream classes if they have the academic and social skills to adapt in a mainstream setting.

Students in the support unit are encouraged to take part in many whole school activities such as the swimming, cross-country and athletics carnivals. If students excel in a sporting area they have the opportunity to participate and progress to the next competitive level.

Our students also join the whole school assemblies once a week, and seating accommodations are made and monitored according to sensory needs.

We hold a support unit assembly every fortnight in the Unit which is hosted by each of our four classes. Students present their work and/ or topic of interest to their fellow peers, further developing their confidence and social skills. These presentations are either through speaking, computer presentations or displaying works of art they have created.  Student awards are presented by staff to commend outstanding work and effort.

Throughout the year students continue to develop their social and community skills, both in class and in external settings, whilst participating in various excursions, swim school programs and work experience.
