The barista program offers many work-ready skills including communication (both with customers and colleagues), excellent organisation skills (especially with decision-making on types of coffee – steamed/textured milk, lattes, flat whites, espressos, macchiatos, long and short black), allocating duties, agility in thinking, and decision making. This is in addition to learning how to operate the grinder, manage the group head and extraction, decide how much water, how to texture the milk using the steam wand and understand coffee. And then cleaning the machines at the end of the shift and general cleaning up.
Students who participate in the barista program will receive a certificate outlining the range of skills that they have mastered to become an excellent barista. Our barista students are both dedicated and professional – working through their recess/lunchtime, but it is great to work under pressure with an excellent team of people.
