Minimum standards

The HSC minimum standard checks that all students have essential literacy and numeracy skills. Life Ready

Life Ready is a mandatory 25-hour course that helps senior students build the skills they need to stay healthy, safe and independent as they take on new responsibilities. At Quakers Hill High School, students complete Life Ready through Year 11 Camp (or an equivalent school-based program) and 10 hours of workshops, incursions and activities tailored to each group’s needs. The program supports students to develop confidence, positive relationships and readiness for life beyond school.

Studying an external course

Some students complete courses through external providers such as Distance Education, TAFE, TVET, SBAT or classes at other schools. The information below explains where to study, how to sign in and what support is available.

Where to study

If you study a Distance Education course or a Modern Languages course through NSW School of Languages (NSL) or the Secondary College of Languages (SCL), you will complete your timetabled lessons in the Senior Learning Hub (SLH). Please sign in using the tablet at the entrance (or in the library if the SLH is closed). The library and its seminar room are also available for quiet, independent study. If both spaces are unavailable, you may use the Outdoor Senior Area or check in with the Student Wellbeing Centre.

For travel classes such as TAFE, TVET, Wyndham College or Seven Hills VIC, attend the external provider as scheduled. You will be marked as ‘school business’ during travel and class time. If your external class overlaps with a QHHS lesson, you are responsible for catching up on any missed work. When ‘TAFE’ appears on your timetable during non-travel weeks, complete that work in the SLH and sign in using the tablet.

When classes start

Distance Education and Languages start in Week 1. Providers will email course information directly to students. Travel classes and buses begin in Weeks 3-4. Until then, students complete scheduled travel-line periods in the Senior Learning Hub.

Year 12

The 2025 Senior SMART manual (PDF 1.6MB) supports our Year 11 and 12 students as they begin Stage 6. It includes helpful information about study expectations, organisation, wellbeing and senior responsibilities.
