Additional learning support
At our school, we make sure every student is ready to learn. We provide support for students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life. A formal diagnosis is not required for your child to receive support at our school.
How we support our students
Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best. We work with families, teachers and specialists to plan adjustments tailored to each child’s learning needs. Support may include:
- learning adjustments in class
- access to specialist English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) support
- tailored programs to help high potential and gifted students
- small group tutoring for literacy and numeracy
- individualised goals and regular check-ins
- use of assistive technology or accessible learning materials
- differentiated tasks, simpler instructions or extra guidance
- assessment adjustments such as extra time, breaks or alternative formats.
We identify when a student may need extra support through classroom observations, assessment data, and discussions with parents and carers. Plans are reviewed regularly and adjusted when needed.
Please contact us if you think your child needs support.

Inclusive education team
Our inclusive education team provides specialised support for students in our support unit and in mainstream classes. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every learner feels valued, capable and supported to achieve their personal best.
Support unit
Our support unit offers a wide range of specialised care and learning opportunities. Each class has a homeroom, and most lessons are taught by the homeroom teacher. Students also learn with specialist mainstream teachers in subjects where their expertise supports student progress.
When appropriate, students can attend selected mainstream classes. This decision is guided by each student’s academic readiness and social skills, ensuring a smooth and successful transition.
Students in the support unit take part in whole-school activities (including swimming, cross-country and athletics carnivals) and may progress to higher competitive levels if they excel. They also join weekly whole-school assemblies, with seating arranged to meet individual sensory needs.
Every fortnight, we hold a support unit assembly hosted by one of our classes. Students showcase their work, interests or creative projects through speaking, digital presentations or artwork. These assemblies build confidence, communication and social skills. Staff also present awards to recognise outstanding effort and achievement.
Throughout the year, students develop important social and community skills through excursions, swim school programs, community access opportunities and work experience placements.
How our inclusive education team supports students
The team works to:
- promote inclusion, respect and equal access for all learners
- tailor support to meet individual learning needs
- encourage active participation in all aspects of school life
- strengthen student confidence, independence and wellbeing.
School learning support officers (SLSOs) play a key role in the team. They:
- provide one-to-one and small-group support
- assist teachers to create inclusive classroom environments
- help students engage with learning and build independence.
Our goal is to help every student develop resilience, grow academically and socially, and build a pathway to future learning and life opportunities.
