Year 7

In Year 7 Visual Arts is a mandatory subject.

Year 7 Visual Arts course

In Year 7 all students study Visual Arts. This 100 hour foundation course is primarily about creating artworks in at least two of the 2D, 3D and 4D expressive forms.

They explore a variety of different art making experiences such as:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • wet photography
  • digital photography
  • printmaking
  • clay work 
  • sculpture. 

Students also learn how to interpret and gain information from artworks that they study in class. They are introduced to the practices of art criticism and art history and the concepts of practice. Students begin to make sense of the visual world we live in and understand that as individuals we can have different points of view.

The topics that are studied in year 7 Visual Arts include:

  • the Elements and Principles of Art
  • Abstract Art
  • Self Portraits 
  • Indigenous or Tribal Art. 

An excursion to the Art Gallery takes place during the year to supplement the curriculum being taught. During the excursion student's experience and view real artworks from different artists.

Students are required to keep a diary to record the ideas and intentions explored in their art making and to engage in drawing as a sustained practice. This is called a Visual Arts Process Diary (VAPD).

The weighting for the course is 70 per cent practical and 30 per cent theory.

The course duration is 2 Semesters.

There are no pre-requisites for this course.

The course fee is $30.
