Visual Art

Visual Arts

At Quakers Hill High School, we encourage our Visual Arts students to develop their understanding of visual communication, learn to think creatively, analytically and become self-motivated learners.

Our students are often given opportunities to participate in Gifted and Talented enrichment programs, competitions, workshops and excursions. We also provide our Indigenous students with the opportunity to participate in workshops and gallery programs. Students also engage with the art world with excursions to the Art Gallery of NSW, The Museum of Contemporary Art and other Sydney galleries.

An annual Creative and Performing Arts Expo held in mid Term 4 showcases the work of our talented Visual Arts and Photography students.

In Visual Arts classes students learn to engage with practice in artmaking and critical and historical studies. All art students make artworks using a range of materials and techniques and various investigations of their world. They will explore, enjoy and respond to a wide range of artists and artworks.

The building of a body of work has been introduced in Stage 5 to provide opportunities for students to make artworks in a sustained way. Students will make artworks in a range of 2D, 3D and 4D forms. The use and understanding of information and communication technologies (ICT) is embedded in the syllabus content where students will use a range of technologies to make and study visual art works. Assessment programs include a Critical and Historical examination each semester.

Visual Arts Assessment

Years 7-10

During the Visual Arts Course students are expected to produce practical pieces of work and detail the development of this work in their Visual Arts Process Diary (VAPD). Students will also undertake both Critical and Historical studies of relevant artists and art movements associated with each unit of work. Students will be given a computer research assignment, and they will learnn how to critically analyse artists' practice in essay form. Students must also sit an examination at the end of each semester.
